Beyond missing the amazing delicacies that Japan has to offer - like sushi or takoyaki - I find myself missing their fast food from time to time, none more so than McDo's very own Ebi Filet-O. Comprised of the same sesame seed buns used to construct the Big Mac and filled with a patty that one assumes is "shrimp" (because really, when did you believe that everything that McDs puts into their foods is what they really are, ie: chicken mcnuggets). It is so damn tasty but gives me gas for days. In America, I don't think the Ebi Filet would pass most palettes on any given day.

While surfing through my standard rotation of blogs, I came across a post by The Chronicles titled 'No Homo'. I've heard this phrase a few times in rap songs and never thought much about it until, again, while watching early morning television, a small editorial piece on Current about rappers and their use of the phrase 'No Homo', addressing the subject based on straight (and often homophobic) hip hop artists and their tendencies, which can sometimes be viewed as "homo" themselves. In no way am I insinuating that my friend Joey is using the term as a blatant rip on gay people, but when you see these two videos, I'm hoping people will 1) laugh because the clips are funny and enlightening, and 2) be enlightened themselves about the double-edged effect 'No Homo' can actually have, no matter how straight you are.

6am insomnia with Bobby Brown

Most mornings I'm up around 6a or so, usually to use the restroom, and it's about that time that I go and shut off the television from being on (or keep it on to see the news). Today I happened to turn halfway in to 'Behind the Music: Bobby Brown', right as they were discussing the break-up between him and New Edition. Being fans of NE and Bobby as a solo artists, I stayed tuned, mostly because I didn't know much about why the group broke up (it was because he didn't want to conform to selling out as a bubble gum pop act and wanted more control of the creative process). Many drugs and a failed marriage with Whitney Houston later, we all know the guy has been through his troubles, served his time, so on and so forth; don't care, wasn't anything new. I was interested more in what he's up to now, especially since I saw him earlier this year at the Greek Theater, headlining alongside Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill, who apparently had formed a new trio called Heads of State. They're really great live, basically the other half of NE if you can see Bell Biv Devoe perform near or around the same time, which I did. Bobby has since released 'Gold', a greatest hits compilation from his various solo, NE and collaborative efforts; starred on CMT's 'Gone Country', a reality tv show (a point in time where he finally dropped the drug habit); and is now touring with Heads of State on his road to redemption. A relatively good ending to an otherwise troubled lifestyle. Now they just need a complete New Edition reunion tour (not sure if the recent NE reunions actually featured Bobby Brown as part of the act, according to VH1's report).

And I thought it was the seven herbs and spices that drove them nuts...

Lesley McCave, a blogger on LA Weekly's Squid Ink collective, recently commented on the KFC phenomenon that takes over Japan during Christmas time. Since the Japanese don't have much access to turkey and probably don't celebrate this holiday like most Americans do (by roasting a turkey and devouring it around a huge dinner table), those who feel the need to improvise, do so by stumbling over to their local KFC, or as the locals refer to as 'Kentucky'. I don't find this particularly weird or anything, nor should anyone for that matter. What is interesting, however, is that they dress the Colonel up in full Santa gear, as with other holidays throughout the year, or for no real reason at all. Perhaps this was simply an interesting nugget of info that you'll relay to a friend but I'm guessing you'll be thinking, "Shit, I wish I didn't read this" instead. Happy holidays y'all.

Mugen turbo manifold (no, seriously)

Bet you've never heard of a Mugen turbo manifold until today. I didn't believe it either until I saw this on nwp4life.com, where someone said, "Spot the Mugen in this engine bay". Clearly there isn't anything really cosmetic that would make you believe there's anything Mugen at all and since it's turbocharged, you become even more clueless. Turns out the owner of the car used a beat up header and had it custom fabricated to bolt up to a turbo. Pretty cool.

Apparently the Air Jordan XI Space Jam shoes were the big final release for the year and a lot of people missed out due to Eastbay's clusterfuck-up of a website. I feel their pain but you should always go in person (preferably to a Niketown) and wait in line to get your shoes. On second thought, maybe you shouldn't. I don't see the appeal at all; they're damn fugly to me. Whatever happened to the AJ3s coming in Military Blue re-release? Oh yeah, that's right; Asia only. Oh well...
